Being a fan of this type of storytelling, 鈥淪nowman鈥檚 Land鈥?is a fairly enjoyable entry into the canon. Not content to be a completely dark tale, Thomson accentuates his situations with well placed dark humor, such as Mickey sitting down to enjoy some coffee and freshly baked scones, begging Berger to open a jar of jam for him after both his hands and arms had been intentionally broken not more than hours before. Walking the line between comedy and thriller, we鈥檙e later presented with a storyline about mysterious unseen locals that are out to destroy the domicile they鈥檙e protecting. Unsure if it鈥檚 all Berger鈥檚 paranoid mind or actual evils out to get them Nick Foles Womens Jersey , we鈥檙e never really given any real indication of their existence. The movie makes several of these slight, unexpected and clever twists, all punctuated by strong performances from it鈥檚 cast.

Combined with breathtaking shots of the stark winter wasteland of the mountains, highlighting the absolute isolation the pair are in, the maniacally played character of Berger, the sympathetic Walter and graceless Mickey Authentic Nick Foles Jersey , 鈥淪nowman鈥檚 Land鈥?presents a darkly comedic tale of well meaning characters thrown into uncomfortable and dangerous situations. If one is looking for a crime drama, this is not it. For those who are fans of the darker edges of comedy and don鈥檛 mind a little violence, this is a worthy watch.

Walter (J眉rgen Ri脽mann) is a hit man whose career is going to pot. He鈥檚 drinking heavily, gambling, and he鈥檚 just shot the wrong guy. Before it gets any worse he鈥檚 encouraged to take a holiday. Walter retires to the snowy mountains for some peace. Here he meets another hitman 鈥?Mickey (Thomas Wodianka) 鈥?and they both pay a visit to an old employer living in a mansion amongst the snowy peaks.

However, when they arrive at the mansion things are somewhat amiss. Their employer Berger isn鈥檛 there Nick Foles Jersey , although a nubile young woman is. She鈥檚 a wild cat; she takes drugs, appears in naked photos scattered around the house, and she also takes an interest in Mickey. Things then literally backfire. During a sex game she accidentally shoots herself. Hours later Berger returns home, and things go from bad to worse.

Thomson鈥檚 film does owe a lot to Fargo 鈥?its snowy location and its tale of incompetent hitmen especially 鈥?but it also seems to owe a lot to Ealing comedies. The tone here is plain farce. Much of the violence that occurs in the film is played for laughs. It doesn鈥檛 share the same graphic nature as Fargo either, and there is certainly no wood chipper. There is, however, a swimming pool with a lingering smell of blood and decay.

Where the film falls down is in its direction. The set up is good, but the pay off is less successful. After Berger returns home to wreak glorious vengeance, the film does falter. There are a couple of twists thrown in which are fun, but ultimately a little unbelievable. It鈥檚 a shame because the characters are so good, and they are played with warmth. J眉rgen Ri脽man is particularly wonderful as Walter; his hangdog expression is equal parts heartbreak and hilarity.

To be fair, the signs were there from the beginning. The introduction of a slightly overbearing voiceover and some flashy visuals could have either been the icing on the cake#7# or over-compensatory. Unfortunately it鈥檚 the latter, and although always engaging, Snowman鈥檚 Land is essentially a cold fish.
